Another week, another spurious music copyright infringement lawsuit. The Rolling Stones are being sued by an artist called Angelslang (aka Sergio Fernandez) for alleged similarities between the former’s 2020 song Living In A Ghost Town, and plaintiff’s earlier songs So Sorry (2006) and Seed of God (2007).

No notes, chords, basslines, or lyrics are the same, and no audio sampling has taken place. The case seems to be based on instrumentation (guitar band with harmonica) and groove (jamming mid-tempo rock either side of 100BPM).

It’s not often that I say “it’s just a waste of taxpayers’ money” but in this case, I’ll make an exception. Motion to dismiss, please!
