The sound of Burns filled the Parliament’s Garden Lobby as the ten finalists of the Burnsong song contest play a showcase concert hosted by the Presiding Officer, Alex Fergusson MSP.

Nuala Kennedy (L) and Ziggy Campbell (R) perform their song “Plate Smashing Song”
Nuala Kennedy, who is playing the banjo for the first time tonight, and Ziggy Campbell – both living in Edinburgh

“We met at a Greek wedding on a Trans-Siberian railway – which inspired the plate smashing song we perform today. We took part in Burnsong two years ago and it was a really free environment in which to create. Its almost a shame we did not have more time this year for collaboration as there are amazing people like AJ Roach and Emily Elbert here. Tonight will be exciting and we hope it’s not over sanitised because of its setting here in the nation’s Parliament on St Andrew’s Day.”
